Walk in the Park

Walk in the Park

June 2008

More than 300 walkers, along with sponsors, volunteers and elders joined us for the Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly first annual Walk in the Park!  Folks of all ages helped us raise funds for LBFE programs…and had fun as well! The event included a:

  • 3.5 mile walk along Chicago's lakefront for the hale and hearty
  • Short circle walk for seniors and others who believe that brevity is the best policy
  • Celebration Picnic – food and drink for all participants and volunteers
  • 30-50 of our Old Friends in attendance!

I volunteered to give something to a group which is often overlooked.

“LBFE has a warm, friendly atmosphere, the site is a very cool loft building with a garden patio, parking.  The staff and volunteers are very committed to Little Bros.  They’re also fun and diverse. The elderly can be challenging at times but all in all are so pleasant, fun and INTERESTING.”

Robin Dannevik, Full-Time Student/Personal Assistant

“I volunteered to give something to a group which is often overlooked and shunned by our youth-crazed society. Volunteering with LBFE has given me something that speaks to my heart and brings me a better sense of community in my life…something that battles the alienation that this city seems so good at proliferating.”

Tim Widlic, Emergency Medical Technician

“The Chicago Chapter of LBFE is as well organized and it is well known.  The elders are very happy about it and I am glad for the organizational skills. Personally volunteering with LBFE is helping me to grow and to sharpen my skills in Ministry.”

Carlette Gentle, Student
