Holiday Celebrations

Many of our elders spend their holidays with the friends they have made through Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly.   We escort our Old Friends from their homes to these parties, or go into their home with a celebration designed just for them.

  • Major Holiday Parties - The Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas Day get-togethers are special Celebrations of Life.  We host three holiday parties where hundreds of our Old Friends join staff and volunteers and their children to celebrate family style.
  • Holiday Bag Deliveries provide food and mementos for the homebound delivered by volunteers on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • Our Christmas Gift Program enables us to provide our Old Friends with gifts that they really need and want.
  • We also throw Special Holiday Parties with a cultural theme throughout the year.  For these gatherings, we invite smaller groups of elders to celebrate occasions such as Black History Month, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween and Valentines Day.

Our Thanksgiving party for Hispanic elders is a time for familial affection.

Quote from Matthew Simcoe

“This work makes me feel like I am contributing to a better country and world. Working with people with similar mindsets inspires hope for the future and faith in the present. [LBFE is] energetic, kind, patient, diverse, open minded, wise and willing.”

Matthew Simcoe, Print Production Coordinator Lead

“The ability to develop a relationship/friendship with an "old friend" makes this, in my experience, a very unique and particularly rewarding type of volunteer actitvity.”

Mary Lou Zwick, Attorney and LBFE donor
