Volunteer FAQ

Q: How much time is involved in volunteering for Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly?

A:  Our volunteers can commit to as little as five hours assisting as a driver to a week-long vacation stay at Rochelle, IL.

Q: How long is the commitment as a LBFE volunteer?

A:  Some of our volunteers are just interested in helping one day, for a holiday meal, while others regularly visit or phone an elder.

Q: How old do you have to be to volunteer?

A: We have children who regularly work alongside their parents as volunteers, school-age and college students, young adults, professionals, and senior volunteers.

Q: What does it take to become a volunteer?

A:  You will need to attend an orientation, fill out the application and complete a background check.

Q: Does it cost anything to volunteer?

A:  No. We provide the training to our volunteers free of charge.

Q: Can I volunteer near my own neighborhood?

A:  LBFE serves nearly 1,000 elders in neighborhoods all over Chicago and you can indicate where you would like to volunteer.

Q: What if my family wants to volunteer on Christmas Day?

A:  We encourage friends and family members to sign up to volunteer together.
